Teen Cast Captains Program

Calling all teen actors! Are you looking for ways to get more involved in theatre? Do you consider yourself a leader? Love sharing your experience with younger performers? Then the Cast Captain Program is just for you! This program gives students aged 13-17 the opportunity to go more in-depth with their theatre education, participate in Stagebugz shows at a discounted rate, and take on leadership roles within their cast. Captains are cast in the Mainstage production and participate as students while also serving as mentors for their peers in their area of interest. Read on to learn more and apply!

Ages 13-17
Mondays, 5:15-7:45 PM

Production & Time Commitment

This Spring, Teen Captains will join Stagebugz's Mainstage Production of Shrek, Jr.! Captains will follow the same rehearsal schedule, policies, and class structure as Mainstage students. To learn more about the Mainstage program, dates, and locations, CLICK HERE!

In addition to regular rehearsals, participants will attend a virtual training session at the beginning of the rehearsal period, scheduled based on their availability. They should plan on occasionally arriving 15 minutes before the start of rehearsal for brief team meetings, and staying a few minutes past the end of rehearsal to assist with clean-up and debriefing.

Tuition & Payment Information

Part of the goal of this program is to allow students opportunities in theatre education without the financial burden. Therefore, Cast Captains will have the majority of their tuition waived, and will only pay a $100 tuition fee, which will cover materials like their T-shirts and scripts.

After applying, those offered the position will be given instructions for registering with the discount. After registration is complete, the $100 tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Available Positions

Cast Captains will be assigned to a specific position based on their interests and knowledge. Applicants may apply for one or many positions!

  • Dance Captain: The dance captain should be a confident dancer who can easily pick up and remember choreography. The dance captain will assist their castmates with learning and reviewing choreography, help fill in dancers after absences, and may even choreograph a dance number (if they are interested). Students applying to be the Dance Captain do not need to have extensive dance experience, as long as they are comfortable learning and teaching simple choreography!

  • Vocal Section Leaders: Section leaders are great positions for strong singers who love learning music! In this position, Mentors will be responsible for staying on top of learning their voice part's music, keeping their section on track, and occasionally leading small-group practice with their section. Depending on the show's needs, up to three section leaders will be chosen: Soprano, Alto, and Tenor/Bass.

  • Assistant Stage Manager: This position is perfect for performers who are interested in diversifying their theatre education and taking on a larger leadership role. It's also a great way to flex your acting muscles! The ASM will assist the directors with taking notes, keeping track of changes, and catching up absent students on what they missed. They will also act as a "Universal Swing" and fill in for actors who are absent from rehearsal.

How To Apply

Applications open December 15, 2024, and will remain open until 10 P.M. on January 14, 2025. Applicants will be notified of a decision on January 15. They may choose to attend in-person auditions on January 15, submit a video audition by January 17, or audition in-person prior to callbacks on January 17.
