 The Lion King

Rising Grades K-5

June 9th-13th, 9 AM-1 PM

Columbine United Church

Tuition: $215

It'll be a hakuna matata kind of summer at Stagebugz! Join Simba and his crew of wildly loveable friends for an adventure into the Pride Lands as you sing and dance through this heartwarming tale based on Disney's imaginative film. Young Simba has always dreamed of being king, but so has his evil uncle Scar. After tragedy strikes, Simba is forced to face his destiny, with the help of friends and family he picks up along the way. With musical favorites like "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" and "Hakuna Matata," this camp guarantees an unforgettable experience for all young performers!

About

In Stagebugz's younger company camp, students explore the basics of singing, dancing, and acting while working together to put on their very own 15-minute performance. Throughout the week, campers will participate in rehearsals with familiar songs and characters, grow their skills and confidence through games and interactive lessons, and learn about a variety of aspects of theatre production through themed activities designed just for young thespians.

Showcase

On the last day of camp, students will share what they've learned throughout the week in an informal showcase for friends and family.

The showcase will take place on Friday, June 13th at Columbine United Church (the same location as camp) at 12 PM.*

*To ensure each child receives individualized attention and an equal opportunity to shine, if camp enrollment exceeds the number of featured characters in our showcase, students will be split into two performance groups and an additional showcase time will be added at 1 PM. Each camper will perform in one or the other, and families with significant extenuating circumstances (work/travel plans, siblings registering together, etc) will have the opportunity to request one time or the other prior to the start of camp.

Auditions

On the first day of camp, students will go through an informal, low-stakes "audition" workshop where they will learn a short song and dance, and have an opportunity to perform lines from The Lion King. No prior preparation is necessary, and campers do not need to be able to read.

All registered performers are guaranteed at least one speaking line and one solo in the final showcase, and our small class sizes ensure that each performer receives ample time in the spotlight. Auditions simply help us to determine where everyone will learn the most and have the best experience. They are not meant to be stressful or overwhelming; they are part of the camp experience because they are a stress-free way to introduce students to the audition process if they should choose to continue pursuing theatre in the future! However, we never want auditions to be the reason a performer is unable to participate. If your child is not comfortable auditioning in person, please reach out to stagebugztheatre@gmail.com and we would be happy to discuss alternative options.
