Show Details

Synopsis:

Cryptophasia (N)- The phenomenon of an autonomous language developed by twins that only the two children can understand.

Anna and Bella Lavey, soul mates and identical twins joined at the hip, have grown up believing that they cannot live without each other. But when Anna develops a fatal heart condition, the girls are confronted with the true cost of freedom--if such a thing even exists at all. At its core, this play explores the universality of having an identity thrust upon us, one which both binds and defines us.

Character Breakdown

The roles of Anna and Bella Lavey have been pre-cast.

Stagebugz Theatre is committed to a policy of equal employment opportunity and does not discriminate in casting practices on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other legally protected status. We actively encourage adult performers of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities to audition.

Mom (Female-identifying, 40s)- Anna and Bella's mother. A master in pretending everything's okay; she's doing her best to give her daughters what is, in her opinion, a "normal" life.

Favorite (Female-identifying, 60s-70s)- Anna and Bella's wise, insightful grandmother. The kind of person everybody counts on to make everything better.

Missy (Female-identifying or non-binary, 18+ to play ages 11 and 18)- Anna and Bella's cousin who always speaks her mind. She tries her best to be understanding and is their only true friend outside of each other.

Unk/Dr. Truman (Male-identifying, 30s-50s)- Actor will double as Missy's father and Anna and Bella's lifelong pediatrician. Unk is a well-meaning, loving father and uncle who always thinks he knows the right answer but too often puts his foot in his mouth. Dr. Truman is a one-in-a-million doctor-- the kind that becomes almost too invested in his patients and would give his life for theirs.
