It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. When Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale characters wo have been cast out by Lord Farquaad, he sets off with a wisecracking Doneky to confront the villain and is given the task of rescuing the feisty Princess Fiona. With a few twists and turns, wildly catchy music, and a large cast of hilarious characters,Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.
About
This spring, Stagebugz's youngest performers ages 4-9 will get to star in our mainstage musical, ending their program with a weekend of performances of a fully-staged production! The Mini Company will rehearse and learn in their own class with activities, games, and lessons tailored to their age group as they explore each step of putting on a show, from auditioning to making props to performing in front of an audience. They will have special numbers in the mainstage musical, and each performer will play a named character with at least one line and a solo. Through games, crafts, and rehearsals, they will learn about the basics of theatre while developing skills in singing, acting, and dancing; making new friends; and building their confidence! Performers work towards collaborating with the mainstage cast for final performances complete with costumes, sets, props, and a live audience!

Performances
Performances will be held on Friday, March 28th at 6 PM; Saturday, March 29th at 2 PM and 6 PM; and Sunday, March 30th at 2 PM at the Three Leeches Theatre. Students in the Mini Company will be double-cast, meaning each student will perform in two of the four shows. Cast A will perform on March 28th at 6 PM and March 29th at 2 PM, and Cast B will perform on March 29th at 6 PM and March 30th at 2 PM.
Performances are open to the public; tickets will go on sale on February 10th and will remain available for purchase until just before the start of each show. Each student will receive two complimentary tickets; additional tickets are $7 ($5 for children and seniors).
Auditions and Casting
Auditions will take place workshop-style on the first day of class. No prior preparation is required; performers will learn material from the show and audition through games and activities. Auditions are not meant to be scary or nerve-wracking, but are simply a way for young actors to learn about the theatre process and for instructors to determine which role best fits each student.
Mini Company performers will be double-cast in their roles in order to give each child a substantial role and ensure tech rehearsals and performances are manageable for our younger students. This means each will perform in two of the four shows. Aside from tech rehearsals and performances, Mini Company performers will always rehearse together, regardless of which cast they are in.
Every student is guaranteed a role with at least one line and one solo upon registering, and our small class sizes ensure that each performer receives ample stage time. In the Mini Company, students will all work together to learn the same songs and scenes that they will perform in the final show. Auditions help us to determine where everyone will learn the most and have the best experience. We do our best to find a role that each child will be excited about, but please remember that in Stagebugz shows, there truly are no small parts. Additionally, many factors go into casting a show, and not receiving their desired role is not a reflection of a child's level of talent.
Parent Volunteers
For this program, there is a minimum of two volunteer hours required for each registered performer. Volunteer hours may be completed by parents/guardians or by a friend or family member. More information and sign-ups will be sent out after the start of rehearsals, but volunteers are primarily needed during tech week and the run of the show, and generally cover positions such as green room chaperones, costume/prop assistants, stagehands, ticket/concession sales, and ushers. There will be opportunities outside of this time frame, as well as positions that can be completed at home, for families who are unavailable this week.
Families who prefer not to complete volunteer hours may pay an opt-out fee of $40 per registered student.
*We do not want volunteer hours to be the reason any child cannot participate! If there are extenuating circumstances and no one is able to volunteer for your child and you are unable to pay the opt-out fee, please email stagebugztheatre@gmail.com.
*Please Note: Program dates, times, and location subject to change. Stagebugz Theatre can offer no refunds or transfers for drops, postponements, or other issues arising out of COVID-19 or any other unanticipated safety emergency.
