Fall Musical:
Yes, Virginia,
There is A Santa Claus

Grades K-6*

Wednesdays, 5:00-6:30 PM

Columbine United Church

It's an especially long, cold winter in New York City, with no holiday spirit to be found. But Christmas-loving Virginia O'Hanlon sets out on a mission to change that and writes a letter to the New York Sun, asking for the truth about Santa. At first, the grouchy editor Francis Church throws the letter away, but a series of magical events soon lead him to publish an answer that inspires the whole community-- and generations to come. This heartwarming tale based on the true story features your favorite holiday music and loveable characters for all performers, promising an unforgettable experience!

*Cast members will spend the majority of rehearsal time in groups with peers of a similar age.

About

In our Fall Musical, performers of all backgrounds and experience levels get to star in their very own musical produced on the mainstage! Through rehearsals, games, and themed activities and crafts, students will learn the ins and outs of putting on a show while developing skills in singing, acting, and dancing; making new friends; and building their confidence! Actors will spend much of their rehearsal time in peer groups where they'll bond with other students their age, while still having plenty of opportunities to learn from those older and younger than them. The production ends with tech rehearsals and a weekend of performances for family, friends, and fans!

Auditions and Casting

Performers will audition workshop-style during their first rehearsal on Wednesday, September 3rd. A short song and scene selection from the script will be sent two weeks prior to the start of class for those who would like to prepare in advance, however prior preparation is not required. There will be ample time to learn the material and show off our unique skills during auditions.

Every student is guaranteed a role with at least one line and one solo upon registering, and our small class sizes ensure that each performer receives ample stage time. Auditions are simply the only way to help us determine where everyone will learn the most and have the best experience. Stagebugz auditions are a low-stress, low-pressure environment that we encourage participants to view as nothing more than an opportunity to do what they love: perform!

We do our best to find a role that each child will be excited about, but please remember that in Stagebugz shows, there truly are no small parts. Additionally, many factors go into casting a show, and not receiving their desired role is not a reflection of a child's level of talent.

Parent Volunteers

For this program, there is a minimum of two volunteer hours required for each registered performer. Volunteer hours may be completed by parents/guardians, family members, or friends. More information and sign-ups will be sent out after the start of rehearsals, but volunteers are primarily needed during tech week and the run of the show, and generally cover positions such as green room chaperones, costume/prop assistants, stagehands, ticket/concession sales, and ushers. There will be volunteer opportunities outside of this time frame, as well as positions that can be completed at home, for families who are unavailable.

All students will be required to help with strike after the final performance; this does not count towards volunteer hours. However, there will be other opportunities for students to volunteer instead of parents for things like load-in and set painting.

Families who prefer not to complete volunteer hours may pay an opt-out fee of $40 per registered student.

*We do not want volunteer hours to be the reason any child cannot participate! If there are extenuating circumstances and no one is able to volunteer for your child and you are unable to pay the opt-out fee, please email stagebugztheatre@gmail.com.

*Please Note: Program dates, times, and location subject to change. Stagebugz Theatre can offer no refunds or transfers for drops, postponements, or other issues arising out of COVID-19 or any other unanticipated safety emergency.
