The Sound of Music
Rising Grades 2-9*
*Students will be split into two casts and will spend the majority of each day with campers of a similar age.
June 23rd-27th, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Columbine United Church
The hills are alive at Stagebugz this summer! Join Maria, the Von Trapp family, and the Nonnberg Abbey nuns for days full of your favorite things: singing, acting, dancing, games, friends, and more! When nun-in-training Maria is sent from the abbey to be the Von Trapp's governess, she finds seven misbehaved children and their strict, lonely father. Maria uses music to bring them together, and the family's love for each other helps them overcome even the biggest challenges. With a large cast of dynamic characters and catchy classics like "Do Re Mi" and "The Lonely Goatherd", The Sound of Music promises a week of excitement and fun for every young performer!
About
The Mainstage Program is designed to give students of many ages and experience levels a taste of all things theatre by moving at their own pace and exposing them to multiple elements of putting on a production. Performers will build their skills as a triple-threat and learn how to apply these skills to different types of music and dance. Each student will also engage with both dramatic and comedic material from the show as they develop their characters and explore acting techniques. Camp days will also be filled with theatre games, team-building, and activities for a busy and exciting week, leading up to a final showcase on the last day!
Age Groups & Double Casting
*Campers will spend the majority of each camp day rehearsing, learning, playing, and taking breaks in groups with peers of a similar age. However, campers will have opportunities to interact as a full group, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
There will be two casts for our final showcase, determined based on age/grade level, parent requests, student goals, and casting requirements. Siblings will be placed in the same cast unless otherwise requested, and we will do our best to honor requests to be placed in the same cast as friends, carpool buddies, etc. Final assignments will be made at the instructors' discretion in order to best accommodate every child's needs.
Cast placement will be sent out with the cast list on Monday evening. All characters are open to performers of all ages.
Each cast will perform in their own showcase: Cast A at 12 PM, and Cast B immediately following at 1 PM. Aside from the performance time, cast placement will not affect camp dates, times, or locations.

Showcase
On the last day of camp, students will share what they've learned throughout the week in an informal showcase for friends and family.
The showcase will take place on Friday, June 27th at Columbine United Church (the same location as camp) at the following times:
12:00 PM - Cast A
1:00 PM - Cast B
Auditions
On the first day of camp, students will go through an informal, low-stakes "audition" workshop where they will learn a short song and dance, and have an opportunity to read scenes or recite lines from the show. No prior preparation is necessary, but materials will be sent out one week prior to the start of camp in order to help mitigate nerves for anyone who prefers to see them in advance.
All registered performers are guaranteed at least one speaking line and one solo in the final showcase, and our small class sizes ensure that each performer receives ample time in the spotlight. Auditions simply help us to determine where everyone will learn the most and have the best experience. They are not meant to be stressful or overwhelming; they are part of the camp experience because they are a stress-free way to introduce students to the audition process if they should choose to continue pursuing theatre in the future! However, we never want the prospect of auditioning to prevent a child from participating. If this is something your child is not comfortable with, please reach out to stagebugztheatre@gmail.com and we would be happy to discuss alternative options.
