Scenes and Songs from
WICKED
Rising Grades 6-12
June 2nd-6th, 9 AM-3 PM
Columbine United Church
Tuition: $295
Defy gravity in our "Wicked"-themed camp this summer as you step into the world of the most "popular" musical event of the year! Performers will spend the week honing their skills through the lens of their favorite characters, songs, and dances from this smash-hit show that tells the history of Oz before Dorothy dropped in. When green-skinned, misunderstood Elphaba and spoiled, popular Galinda meet at Shiz University, they form an unlikely friendship that is tested as they and their peers learn dark truths about Oz.
About
Stagebugz's teen camp offers students of all experience levels a fast-paced training program where campers get to challenge themselves to explore more advanced performance techniques and take part in professional-style musical rehearsals. Each student is met where they're at and given opportunities to shine while exploring individual interests and goals. Special topics workshops and peer groups enrich camp days and are tailored to provide a taste of other aspects of theatre outside of rehearsal time. Of course, there will be lots of games, team-building fun, and friendships that will last for good!

Showcase
On the last day of camp, students will share what they've worked on throughout the week in an informal showcase for friends and family.
The showcase will take place on Friday, June 6th at Columbine United Church (the same location as camp) at 1:00 PM.*
*To ensure each child receives individualized attention and an equal opportunity to shine, if camp enrollment exceeds the number of principal positions in our showcase, students will be split into two performance groups and an additional showcase time will be added at 2 PM. Each camper will perform in one or the other, and families with significant extenuating circumstances (work/travel plans, siblings registering together, etc) will have the opportunity to request one time or the other prior to the start of camp.
Auditions
On the first day of camp, students will go through an informal, low-stakes "audition" workshop where they will learn a short song and dance and have an opportunity to read scenes from "Wicked." No prior preparation is necessary, but materials will be sent out one week prior to the start of camp in order to help mitigate nerves for anyone who prefers to see them in advance.
All registered performers are guaranteed at least one solo and speaking lines in the final showcase, and our small class sizes ensure that each performer receives ample time in the spotlight. Auditions simply help us to determine where everyone will learn the most and have the best experience. They are not meant to be stressful or overwhelming; they are part of the camp experience because they are a stress-free way to introduce students to the audition process if they should choose to continue pursuing theatre in the future! However, we never want auditions to prevent a performer from participating. If your child is not comfortable auditioning in-person, please reach out to stagebugztheatre@gmail.com and we would be happy to discuss alternative options.
